I need to know who has a Computer Science degree and how it has worked out for them. As potential employers scout for new "recruits" to employee their company with on campus visits,I would like to know if 48K a year is too low? I have a good friend that was offered 63K, am I being low balled? I live in Florida. (just in case someone says "depends where you live". And to be even more specific, I live in the panhandle. Thank you.

The 48K figure is probably normal for someone with a degree but no experience. My degree is CIS (Computer Information Systems) degree but starting pay should be equivalent. The 63K is great if you can get it but keep in mind that you are lucky to get anything right now. If you got the 63K job expectations might be higher as to what you can do and they might wash you out after a few months or a year. If you hold out for more $$$ you could end up waiting on people at McDonalds. Don't get greedy and blow the chance as this is obviously your first job in this field. In 2-4 years you can survey things and see if you can find a better deal. You will have this job on your resume and can search from a stronger position. There are a number of experienced IT professionals on the street looking for work and you are competing with them. The only reason these companies are giving you the time of day is that they want to get teachable young folks and mold them into company employees that will be around for many years. Weigh this opportunity carefully as it might be the only one you see... Best wishes
